Papers, containing printed materials, articles, correspondence, photographs, and financial records. The bulk of this collection lies in records that Brannon accumulated in connection with organizations that he was involved with, including the Newcomen Society, the Alabama Anthropological Society, the Montgomery Glass Collectors, and the Montgomery Stamp Club. These papers also contain a large number of articles published by Brannon, such as "Edward Harris : Friend of Audubon," the "Organizations of the Confederate Post Office," "Through the Years," his newspaper column in the Montgomery Advertiser, and several volumes of the journal Arrowpoints. Of special interest are the materials Brannon collected concerning steamboats and riverboats in Ala. These materials include photographs, receipts, clippings, transcriptions of original materials, and correspondence. The Badge/Button/Philatelic collection has been transferred to the artifact collection.

The Alabama Anthropological Society was organized May 13, 1909, after Thomas M. Owen, Peter A. Brannon, and Henry S. Halbert decided that an organization was needed for the promotion of the study of anthropology in Alabama. Peter Alexander Brannon was born at Seale, Russell Co., Ala., 30 Aug. 1882.
